Transition From Your Old Job To Your Dream Job!

How to Transition from your Old Job to Owning your own Business as a Franchisee

There comes a time in your life when you grow tired of your day job and dream of owning your own business. You dream of being your own boss and setting your own schedule. But for many, they don’t know where to begin. That’s where becoming a franchisee comes in! Certain benefits come along when buying into a franchise model, for instance, there’s a proven company track record, an established brand name, training programs and not to mention ongoing support and marketing assistance.

So how do you choose which franchise is right for you?

Research, research, research!

1. Attend franchise events. The International Franchise Expo claims that it is the largest expo in the U.S., with more than 300 franchises in attendance. The IFE conference is hosted annually, as well as a number of smaller regional events nationwide.

High Touch High Tech was in attendance of the 2017 International Franchise Expo help at the Javits Center in New York City this past June. We will also be attending some regional events throughout the rest of 2017. Please see our schedule listed below:

Austin, Texas – September 23 & 24

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – October 7 & 8

Orlando, Florida – October 20 & 21

2. Talk to franchisors and franchisees. Head to the franchisors website and request more information. Carefully review all materials including the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD), a legal document that the Federal Trade Commission requires franchisors to provide. For a more in depth look, try calling existing and perhaps former franchisees. Ask the franchisees about their experiences, including the support they have received from the corporate office. For a hands-on look see if there is a franchise location near you and see if you can shadow them for a day.

3. Consult with the Better Business Bureau. Check to see if there are any consumer complaints against a particular franchisor by doing a search on the Better Business Bureau’s website or by contacting the Federal Trade Commission.

 4. Do a web search. There are a number of sites for basic franchise information. We recommend taking a look at the International Franchise Association’s website IFA, The Franchise Directory, Entrepreneur MagazineWorld FranchisingFranData and American Franchisee Association
