Generation Z: Harnessing the Entrepreneurial Spirit

Who is Gen Z?

Millennials, or Generation Y, born from 1982 through 1993 have been rumored to be the most entrepreneurial generation. Yet, Generation Z or the ‘Next Gen,’ who were born between years 1994 and 2010 are positioned to become the most entrepreneurial generation ever seen. Gen Z is the “Internet Generation,” they are tech savvy, self-educated, connected. A recent study of Gen Z’ers concluded that 72% of them wanted to start their own company, utilizing entrepreneurship to have control over their lives, become debt-free, and to choose a purposeful life.

Entrepreneurs can create their own schedules, creating the work-life balance many seek. Many studies have concluded that people who leave little time for themselves after working long hours have a 33% higher risk of stroke and a 13% higher risk of heart disease. Work-life balance is more than enjoying vacations and having free time, it is a health risk. Gen Z’ers may be the generation to break free of restrictive 9-5 schedules to prioritize their health and family, and entrepreneurship is the key.

Why are Gen Zers turning towards entrepreneurship?

Generation Z is the most optimistic and purpose driven generation. Two-thirds of Gen Z’ers say they are optimistic about the future, while 55% say they believe they place emphasis on whether their work has a purpose. The upcoming generation wants there to be an end goal, an objective for the reason they are working, wanting to improve the world through the work they do. Generation Z wants work to be more than profit, and there is no better brand for them than High Touch High Tech. For the optimistic Gen Z’er, High Touch High Tech is improving the world through STEM education, leaving a lasting impression on the 16 million students we reach each year. Our franchisees have the satisfaction in knowing their work has meaning and benefits our world.

Generation Z can take their work life into their own hands through entrepreneurship. By becoming your own boss, your earnings are a direct reflection of your hard work; you can choose when you work, and what you are doing. For the novice entrepreneur, franchising is an excellent way to branch into business ownership. Franchising allows someone with no entrepreneurship experience to launch a business with a proven successful concept, offering support to guide your business in the right direction. High Touch High Tech is a purpose driven franchise, leaving a lasting impression on the students, teachers, and parents we serve. Business Leadership: Which One Can You Relate To?

Do you exemplify qualities of a successful business leader? Are you a self-starter? Do you excel in creative thinking and execution of new ideas? Where you lucky enough to be born with “business savvy” skills that just seem to come naturally to you? This article explains the six different types of successful business leaders and provides examples of some of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs.

The Hustler is an enthusiastic go-getter who can sell just about anything. They are supremely confident and conscientious and won’t let anything stand in their way. Zig Ziglar and Mary Kay Ash are great examples of this type of entrepreneur!

The Innovator is typically always forward-thinking and adventurous. They constantly seek to challenge old ideas, and find new and unconventional ones.

The Machine simply gets things done. Equipped with an aptitude for solving problems and a high level of efficiency, they always deliver quality.  Bill Gates is an example of a Machine Entrepreneur!

The Prodigy is blessed with an inborn business sense and instinct. They have natural intellect, a stoic demeanor, and strong social skills to help guide them to success. Elon Musk is a great example of a Prodigy Entrepreneur.

The Strategist is a creative and tactical thinker. They are always calculating a game plan. Their habit of long term thinking leads to success.  Two notable Strategist Entrepreneurs are Steve Jobs and Martha Stewart.

The Visionary combines new and innovative ideas with the drive and enthusiasm needed to rally the masses behind them. For example, Oprah Winfrey!

These are 6 business leadership qualities that successful entrepreneurs exemplify. Does strategic creativity come easily to you? Are you able to develop creative ideas and deliver those concepts to the world around you? Do you associate with any of the previously referenced entrepreneurs? If so, you might have what it takes to become an accomplished business owner yourself!

Transition From Your Old Job To Your Dream Job!

How to Transition from your Old Job to Owning your own Business as a Franchisee

There comes a time in your life when you grow tired of your day job and dream of owning your own business. You dream of being your own boss and setting your own schedule. But for many, they don’t know where to begin. That’s where becoming a franchisee comes in! Certain benefits come along when buying into a franchise model, for instance, there’s a proven company track record, an established brand name, training programs and not to mention ongoing support and marketing assistance.

So how do you choose which franchise is right for you?

Research, research, research!

1. Attend franchise events. The International Franchise Expo claims that it is the largest expo in the U.S., with more than 300 franchises in attendance. The IFE conference is hosted annually, as well as a number of smaller regional events nationwide.

High Touch High Tech was in attendance of the 2017 International Franchise Expo help at the Javits Center in New York City this past June. We will also be attending some regional events throughout the rest of 2017. Please see our schedule listed below:

Austin, Texas – September 23 & 24

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – October 7 & 8

Orlando, Florida – October 20 & 21

2. Talk to franchisors and franchisees. Head to the franchisors website and request more information. Carefully review all materials including the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD), a legal document that the Federal Trade Commission requires franchisors to provide. For a more in depth look, try calling existing and perhaps former franchisees. Ask the franchisees about their experiences, including the support they have received from the corporate office. For a hands-on look see if there is a franchise location near you and see if you can shadow them for a day.

3. Consult with the Better Business Bureau. Check to see if there are any consumer complaints against a particular franchisor by doing a search on the Better Business Bureau’s website or by contacting the Federal Trade Commission.

 4. Do a web search. There are a number of sites for basic franchise information. We recommend taking a look at the International Franchise Association’s website IFA, The Franchise Directory, Entrepreneur MagazineWorld FranchisingFranData and American Franchisee Association

Success by Using the Franchisor’s Way

Franchises would be at the top of any list of investments people consider a sure bet. After all, the thinking goes, an entrepreneur is buying into an existing company and opening an outlet where none exists. Surely, the money will just pour in.

Of course, it isn’t that simple. But it can work if you follow the script. And have a bit of luck.

The great thing about a franchise is that the franchisor has already proven that their product or service is successful. They don’t guarantee success, but if you do it their way, your chances of success are far greater than if you do it on your own.

It takes a certain type of entrepreneur to succeed — one who is comfortable with running a business in a prescribed way.

Although franchises my seem to be a less exciting investment, for someone who really has a passion for managing a process, investing in franchises can be so lucrative that that extra spark may not matter.

The biggest challenge for passive investors may be managing the people who are making the investment profitable day to day. Products and services don’t deliver themselves; but rather success is driven by the passion and motivation of employees. It’s critical to make sure the people who work for you are well taken care of.

As a passive investor, having someone to pay attention to the day-to-day operation is crucial. Those who just want to invest are smart to hire proven operators; your business is only as good as the people running it.

For investors who want to turn one franchise into many, the type of franchise they start with matters. Choosing a brand that would be easier to finance given a successful track record and existing customer base are critical to the decision of multi-unit operation.

Finally, for those who want a hands-off role should consider buying existing franchises instead of building one from scratch. If you buy a franchise that is already operating, the next day you are making money rather than spending time training staff and opening with no revenue.

6 Facts on Starting a Franchise Business

Thousands of people are getting involved with franchises. If you’re thinking about becoming one of the many franchise owners, there are 6 facts to know before you jump in:

1. Franchising opportunities are everywhere

When most people think franchising, they think fast food, but virtually every industry has begun offering franchise opportunities. Whether your passion is accounting, retail, or communications, there is a franchise opportunity out there that will interest you.

2. Franchises require an investment on your part

Starting up a franchise is often cheaper than starting up a business on your own. However, there are still start-up costs that you will be responsible for.

However, by starting a franchise, you will get to take advantage of bulk rates on things like your IT equipment, public relations services, and marketing materials. Because they are so big, franchisors tend to get discounts that “normal” companies could never get on their own.

3. Franchising means you don’t have to start from scratch

When you open up a franchise, you get to use a product, a brand name, and a business model that has already been successful. Start-up companies work for years to get that kind of recognition. But by franchising, you get a good reputation right off the bat.

Franchise Marketing Strategy

4. Franchisors are highly regulated

There are national regulation measures in place to make sure that franchisors are acting properly. Those rules can actually make it easier for you to start a franchise, instead of your own private company.

5. Franchises can be operated from anywhere

Because there are so many different opportunities out there, you can find a franchise that fits your lifestyle. If you don’t want to work in a traditional office, there are plenty of franchises that allow you the freedom to work at home or in a mobile environment.

Franchise Locations

6. Franchising means having access to constant support

When you’re just starting out, your franchisor will provide you with training and support, so that you can get up to speed quickly. They may even put you in touch with other franchisees so that you can swap ideas. And, a good franchisor will also provide you with ongoing training, so that you can keep current on all of the latest trends and developments.
